Being world’s most popular Instant Messaging service, WhatsApp carries over a Billion daily active users from around the world which is officially owned by the giant, Facebook. Now, Facebook has introduced yet another feature for all the users with which you can now share live locations to your contacts. This is a static feature which can only be shared for once.
This live location feature updates your location in real time so the recipient can get accurate location of yours if you have shared your current location with them. Fortunately, this feature works even if the app is not currently opened. It should be working on your background only.
Indeed WhatsApp has its own current location feature available however it doesn’t work in real time. By introducing this new live location sharing feature, you can actually track down the users in real time. The feature will work on the moving condition as well.
This new live location share feature can be used with individual chats or group chats as per your choice. If we talk about the groups, multiple users can share locations within one group as well. Once you share a location, you will be able to see the names and contacts of the people whom have also shared the location within the group. So you can easily see the map shared by a particular contact by selecting the name.
As per the official blog post of WhatsApp, “Today, we’re rolling out a new feature that allows you to share your location in real-time with family or friends. Whether you’re meeting up with friends, letting loved ones know you’re safe, or sharing your commute, Live Location is a simple and secure way to let people know where you are.”
Interestingly, you can set up the timings for the shared location. You can set the time in seconds, minutes and hours as per your requirements so the people can only track down the location to that specific time period only.
In order to make use of this new live location feature, you need to open an individual chat or group chat and select the Attack option. A menu will be presented from which you need to select the Location option and then tap on to the Share Live Location option. This new WhatsApp feature has been rolled out to Android and iOS platform. The new update is just rolled out and it will take a few days to reach out to your location, you have to be patient enough to get this new update in your device.
WhatsApp has already started working on the WhatsApp Business app for small enterprises. This app aims at local firms to expand their Business by reaching out to the public. The new WhatsApp Business app would be a complete different app compare to the original WhatsApp app so there would be a bunch of extra features you will be getting with this app. The Business app will not be available for free and to own the license of it, you have to pay a few bucks.
Furthermore, the Live Location service is set with 1 hour timings by default which you can set as per your requirements with 15 minutes and more. Additionally, you can even add a comment for the same.
If for some reason, you want to remove the location which you have recently shared to a chat or a group, you can simply delete the live location from the chat itself. In your Account Privacy settings option, you will be able to see WhatsApp chats where you have shared the live location. You can pick up the contact from there and can delete the location from there anytime you want.
Additionally, once you share the Live Location, you will be able to see it with thumbnail in your chat. By tapping on to this option, you will be taken to a map where you can select the map with Satellite or Terrain view. You can even see the live traffic data on the map as well. If we talk about the battery consumption with this feature, the officials have said that, the engineers have tried really hard to make this feature available in the app and hence it will not consume more battery in your mobile device.
