JEDEC on Tuesday introduced the new Universal Flash Storage 3.0 version with its full list of specification. The company has announced this new version with respect to the current tech scenario and demands of the consumers. Like you know, many smartphone giants are launching their phones with advanced technology. For the very same reason the company is now coming up with the new UFS 3.0 which will offer double the speed of what you currently get.

According to official information, the new UFS 3.0 is world’s first storage standard to use MIPI M-PHY HS-Gear 4. This technology will instantly boost up the overall performance with double the speed. The previous UFS version was UFS 2.1 which is now upgraded to the new one, UFS 3.0.

As stated, a single lane can carry up to 11.6 Gbps which is double what you get with the UFS 2.1. If need some more speed, you could go with the double lane connection which will carry up to 23.2 Gbps data. The previous generation of UFS was working on 2.7V to 3.6V while the latest, UFS 3.0 moved to 2.5V which will consume less energy of your device and will still get you the best performance.

Apart from this, the company has also introduced UFS Card Extension version 1.1. This new version has a set of minor updates with some editorial changes with respect to the current technology equipments. UFS 3.0 is designed for the automotive and smartphones to consume less energy or we can say less power consumption with its customisable interface.

Additionally, the newly announced UFS 3.0 has a bunch of new features such as  temperature alerts, device error history and some more for automative department. If we talk more about the automative features on this new UFS 3.0, it brings an extended temperature range of -40C to 105C.

“UFS 3.0, UFSHCI 3.0 and the UFS Card Extension update offer a host of enhancements over the prior versions of these standards that will help product designers enable significant improvements in mobile devices and related applications. The addition of features specifically for the automotive market underscores the commitment of JEDEC members to continue to evolve the UFS ecosystem to meet the needs of the industry and, ultimately, the consumer,” said Mian Quddus, Chairman of the JEDEC Board of Directors said.

Additionally, in order to improve the data reliability, the new UFS 3.0 has a whole new error logging and refresh operation. This will instantly show you what you could do to use less data and improve the data reliability with the latest version of UFS 3.0.

Furthermore, the company has also developed a new UFS Host Controller Interface 3.0. This new controller is designed to simplify the process. This will help other UFS Hardware manufacturer to work with their eco system and will offer a familiar design all together.

Moving on to the card version, the UFS version 1.1 includes more support. It comes with support for  HS-G1/ G2/ G3. It will also add power definition for the card, peak and RMS.
