Toyota is building a new $2.8 billion self-driving company to develop a software

By | March 3, 2018

Toyota is expanding their automative field by starting a new self-driving company worth $2.8 Billion where they will research and develop their own self-driving software for the future of self-driving cars. To make this happen, the company is partnering with two suppliers initially.

Toyota has officially announced their new venture to develop their own self-driving software. The new Toyota’s venture will be called  Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development. The main aim behind starting up this institute is “fully integrated, production-quality software” for the future of self-driving cars.

Two partners who would also be the suppliers with Toyota are Denso and Aisin. The company is spending over $2.8 Billion as investment in this new venture where they will research, develop and test out their own self-driving software and vehicles in real life.

To start with the venture, the company will be in need of over 1,000 employees. Most of the employees would be engineers as they are looking for a new software to develop with the help of them and for that reason, most of the engineers will be joining their team.

Furthermore, the company’s head-quarter will be in Tokyo, however they will communicate in English language only. English would be their primary communication language and the company will keep the world’s employees and not the local ones only.

The original TRI-AD concept was originally found in the year 2015 with their own $1 Billion investment. The company aimed towards Artificial Intelligence and autonomous driving vehicles, however they didn’t implement it during that period and now launching the same company with new concept and even more investment.

“Building production-quality software is a critical success factor for Toyota’s automated driving program,” said Dr. James Kuffner, newly appointed CEO of TRI-AD, in a statement. “This company’s mission is to accelerate software development in a more effective and disruptive way, by augmenting the Toyota Group’s capability through the hiring of world-class software engineers. We will recruit globally, and I am thrilled to lead this effort.”

Instead of producing self-driving vehicles, Toyota aims at researching and developing the software to power in the vehicles in future. Since there are many other giants available who are already up in the market with their own self-driving vehicles, they are not 100% accurate in real life. To make it even more accurate with 100% user satisfaction, the company is spending huge money in building up their own company. In future, Toyota will also produce their own Self-driving vehicles which will be using their very own self-driving software.

Toyota will come up with more official information about this all new venture in the automotive industry. The company will definitely come up with something innovative which would change the entire industry. We would let you update with every single update on this new project by Toyota.
