Starbucks have launched a new app with the name “My Starbucks Barista” which works on the latest voice computing. This new innovative app allows the coffee lovers to order their favourite drinks as well as pay for it just by their voice.
Yes, you will just have to speak the name of your favourite drinks and the app will do the rest of you. Even if you wish to modify the drinks at later stage, you can do that too with voice commands just like you are talking to a Starbucks barista in real time. Not only that, Starbucks have teamed up with Amazon Alexa which allows the users to reorder their favourite drinks again and again over their Alexa or Echo speaker.
The news was already out there as they announced similar plans at the Investor Day. The voice assistant that they were talking about was planned for early 2017, and it looks like Starbucks were hinting towards nothing but My Starbucks Barista.
The Starbucks application now possesses a whole new messaging interface and makes use of an artificial intelligent process to understand the orders and interact with the user. Not only it can take orders, the app also confirms your location and the location from where you wish to place the order. The payment processing is also handled by the app very easily.
However, the app is not available to everybody. According to the company, the new app is in beta phase and will be made available only to thousand customers in the country and that too on iOS. After the limited testing phase is over, the app will be available to everyone in summer 2017. Also, there is not much information about the Android version of the app but it is expected to arrive in the later half of the year.
Amazon has also made some upgrades to Alexa and introduced the new “Starbucks Reorder Skill” feature. With this new feature, users can re-order the same drink just by saying Alexa, order my Starbucks”. Obviously, in order to do this, you need the new Starbucks app installed on your iOS device with and account containing your favourite order.
Well, this seems to be the perfect time to adopt the technology when it is at its boom. If we look at the metrics, around more than 24 million voice devices have been shipped by various companies all over the world this year. Alexa and Google Home are going to be very common in the coming days as people are more comfortable in controlling almost everything using their voice. Also, with good integration with mobile assistants like Cortana, Google Assistant and Siri, the technology can definitely boost their sales.
The Starbucks app have already made its way in users devices. And with the new voice adaptation, they look ready to step into future sales and marketing. Well, this looks a logical step as well. Starbucks has around 8 million customers, 1 out of 3 paying via smartphone or smart device.
According to Starbuck’s Chief Technology Officer, Gerri Martin-Flickinger, “The Starbucks experience is built on the personal connection between our barista and customer, s everything we do in our digital ecosystem must reflect that sensibility.” He also added, Our team is focused on making sure that Starbucks voice ordering within our app is truly personal and equally important was finding the right partner in Amazon to test and learn from this new capability.”
