Microsoft’s Surface Studio features 28 inch display with screen resolution of 4500 x 3000 pixels. The beast is powered by a 3.6 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 32 GB RAM. Storage isn’t a problem in Surface Studio, 2 TB is enough to store a lot of data. The 4GB NVIDIA GTX 980M DDR5 Graphic driver is capable of handling all kinds of software. Additionally, there are 4 USB 3.o ports, mini display port and a SD card reader.
On the other hand, Apple’s iMac offers a 27 inch 5K retina display with 5120 x2880 pixels resolution. It is powered by a beastly 4.0 GHz Intel Core i7 processor assisted by 32GB RAM. iMac also has 2TB Fusion Hard Drive. iMac has 4GB DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M395X graphics memory that can handle all kids of heavy games and programs very easily. There are 4 USB 3.0 ports a SD card reader and 2 mini display ports.
Going into a bit detail, obviously iMac has a better display than Surface Studio. It might be a bit smaller than Microsoft’s new machine. But when we look at the ppi. iMac has ppi of 217 and Surface studio has ppi of just 192. So, iMac is way ahead in presenting your colour enriched images and HD videos. But, one biggest plus point that Surface Studio has is touch screen. It can handle 10 touch points on the screen at the same time, while iMac display is just normal screen with IPS display technology.
Here no doubt Microsoft Surface Studio is a winner. It has been brilliantly designed with highly adjustable hinge using which one could lower the screen as per his or her requirement. This makes drawing and writing easy for the users. Also, one can rotate it to adjust it to any angle very easily. Since all the machine parts are present in the base of the machine, the screen is extremely slim.
Apple iMac however, is thicker than Surface Studio since all the machine parts are present inside the screen itself. Also, one cannot rotate it to all the angles. The viewing angle is restricted and the height can’t be adjusted much.
CPU, RAM & Graphics
Both the machines offers almost same specifications. The only difference is in the clockspeed of the processors where iMac beats surface pro. Also, the graphics drives used in Surface Studio is the latest NVIDIA one, while iMac uses a bit old AMD graphics driver. The storage space is same in both the machines as well.
