Spotify is one of the most popular online music streaming service which is available for all the major platforms including its web edition to make use of it on your computer’s web browser. Apparently, Spotify has stopped its access from Apple’s Safari web browser and users of Safari web browser will no longer be able to stream out Spotify Music through its web browser. The service will be continuing on other browsers like Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox and Edge.
Whenever you use the Safari web browser to access Spotify, you will get an instant pop up window saying Safari has been removed from official compatibility list. You have to either download Mac’s client or use another web browser to do so. You will see a message like this on your Safari web browsr, “This browser doesn’t support Spotify Web Player. Switch browsers or download Spotify for your desktop.”
Official community support forum clears the doubts of everyone with a statement, “After taking a look backstage, we can confirm that after recent updates Safari is no longer a supported browser for Web Player,” the reply read. “We’re always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall. We’re sorry that this means you’re not able to use the Web Player like you could before. We can’t say if or when any specific features will be back. But as soon as we’ve got anything to announce, we’ll let everyone know via the Spotify Community.”
This could be the reason behind the plugin support. To stream out music on Spotify, Google’s Widevine plugin is needed, however Mac has flagged off this plugin because of its security issues. This plugin doesn’t provide high level security which is why Mac system has flagged it off. Due to this security issue, hackers may hack your accounts and can steal your personal data. Apple don’t want hackers to hack your private data and hence flagged it off.
Apple has its own Apple Music which is like a true rival for Spotify. Apple has launched its live music streaming service, Apple Music in 2015 and since then, it became a rival for Spotify. Talking about the users and subscribers, Apple’s Music has around 27 Million subscribers whereas Spotify has over 60 Million paid subscribers. Spotify has global rankings and everyone loves using its services from around the world.
Apart from this, Spotify has its own free version which shows ads, so you can explore everything for free with advertisements. While, Apple will charge you after 3 months of free subscriptions which is also an issue with both the competitors.
Spotify for Mac is currently available, however you have to download a compatible Mac app to run its service as the message says. Spotify clears they may come up with a compatible version to support Safari web browser, but the exact availability of this is still unknown and they don’t claim anything on the availability yet.
