Google has officially announced their new Android P Developer Preview 1 update for the Pixel devices. However, the giant has dropped support for Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P as well as the Pixel C tablet. So these devices will not get the Android P’s developer previews as the giant has stopped supporting these devices.
The first developer preview of Android P operating system works only on Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL smartphones. Unfortunately, the Nexus users will not get to test out this update officially by Google and won’t receive any new updates over the air by Google.
The Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C tablet got the Android 8.1 Developer Preview, however the company is dropping the support for these devices with the upcoming, Android P operating system. So these devices are now not in the list to receive the official Developer Preview updates by Google. The giant has focused on the Pixel series phones and the updates are made available for the Pixel phones of Google only.
Many tech enthusiasts have reached to Google regarding this, and they have officially confirmed that they are dropping support for these devices and they won’t get new updates by now. However, the monthly security updates will be regular on the devices. The final major Android update for these devices was Android 8.1 Developer review.
Google is offering support for the latest Software updates for their new smartphones only which are of 2 years old. The original Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P phones were launched in the year 2015. If we talk about the availability of the new Android P operating system, it will be outed for the devices in the coming August or September month. In this period, the devices will be almost three years older and for that reason, the giant is dropping support for the new updates on these devices.
If we talk about the Pixel C tablet, it was also launched during the same period and as per Google’s own policy, the Pixel C is also dropping the support for the new Android P Developer Preview updates. As promised, all these devices will get regular security updates for three years.
Google has upgraded their policy for the newly launched Google Pixel phones i.e. Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL smartphones. According to the new policy, these new Google Pixel 2 phones will get major Android updates for three years including the monthly security updates.
