Zomato launches online food ordering

Zomato-Base-AppZomato launches online food ordering in NCR. Yes Zomato has started online ordering in Delhi NCR and plans to roll out in Bengaluru, Mumbai and other cities. The beauty of the app is that devices will act as direct line of communication for hotels to confirm orders for Zomato users.

Zomato will charge commission to the restaurants for orders processed via its platform. However the commission will vary and it is based on customers feedback. Higher rating by the customer will give 7% commission to Zomato and lower rating will 15% commission to the company.

Apart from these they are planning to offer cashless feature on the app itself. According to the sources Zomato is offering wallet services in Dubai and soon may roll out these services in India.


Zomato has distributed iPads to all their partner restaurants for the online ordering, indicates the preparation on the logistics end of Zomato. All the iPads has been Bluetooth enabled to make cashless transaction at ease. However Zomato is waiting for the relaxation of two factor authentication norms for small amounts by RBI. The app has added feature of tagging the friends to split the bill in case it is required. Till then cash on delivery for the services has to be used by the Zomato users.

Zomato is trying to replicate the star rating in online taxi operator apps. Just like user deposit some amount in the app and can pay for the ride and do not even worry about carrying wallets and credit cards to pay.


Rocket Internet backed FoodPanda is already providing these services to customers in several cities and Zomato will join the bandwagon of the online food ordering app services provider. However Zomato will not handle the actual delivery like FoodPanda does. The company works as facilitator between restaurant and customer.

The sector is witnessing lot of action nowadays, Ola has started Olacafe services in major cities where selected localities will get food delivered and TinyOwl received funding from Sequoia, worth more than $25 million. The food technology sector will seen lot of competition in terms of acquisition of smaller startups company taken over by the bigger companies.
