WhatsApp, currently owned by Facebook, is one of the best and most popular instant messaging app. Facebook acquired WhatsApp back in 2014 for $19 billion and since then this app has grown massively. Jan Koum, founder of this messaging app has announced on Facebook that this instant messaging service has added another milestone by reaching to 900 million monthly active users.

This new feet of WhatsApp means that the messaging app has added 100 million new users in less than five month period, because back in April it was announced that the service had 800 million monthly active users. This number is also not much less that its parent company Facebook, which announced 1.49 billion monthly active users in June this year. In comparison with Facebook’s own messenger app that has 700 million MAU as of June this year, its growth is impressive.

WhatsApp is mostly used on Android, as a study revealed last month that three quarters of WhatsApp users are on Android and only 22 percent users are on iOS. But with the recent inclusion of WhatsApp web, the user’s numbers on iOS is expected to grow. With this new milestone of WhatsApp, the messaging service has proved its popularity and we hope it keeps growing.
