If you have received a email from Twitter that your account has been locked, do not fret. You are not alone.
A massive spike seems to be on currently with many users complaining their accounts being locked right now. It is still vague whether its intentional or a bug in the automated tool on Twitter’s part.
Latest update from Twitter says its currently working on the issue and it would be fixed soon.
Some users assume that this may be because of their ‘follow back’ habit where they instantly follow anyone who follows them just to boost their follow count. Others argue that they have nothing wrong other than tweeting a lot.
The email from Twitter states to the locked account users “appears to have exhibited automated behavior that violates the Twitter Rules,” and the lock was placed to “protect Twitter from unauthorized logins.”
Looking at the recent increase in the hacking of the high-profile accounts of late (including that of Twitter’s own CFO, Anthony Noto) – it is likely that Twitter is hastily toiling away at its automated account-moderation tools. Crank the sensitivity too high too fast, and it is easy to imagine lots of not-so-guilty accounts getting pulled in and locked by mistake.
