[How to]Remove shadow effects from Windows borders in Windows 10

By | October 6, 2014

Microsoft has launched the Technical preview version of Windows 10 and after installing this version you will find shadow effect under program windows when you open any program such as This PC, Recycle Bin or RUN dialog box. Microsoft for Windows 10 has added the huge shadow effect for any window borders which looks awesome for some people but annoying for others at the same time. The shadow is large in size and so some people may not like this.

Microsoft introduced the subtle shadow effect with Windows 8/8.1 which looks decent but this shadow effect looks bit ugly. But the good news here is it is very easy to disable the new shadow effect and here let us see how to disable it.

How to remove shadow effects from Windows borders in Windows 10

  • Hit WIN+R keys together on your PC to launch the RUN dialog box
  • In the RUN dialog box type sysdm.cpl and hit Enter and it will open the classic System properties window and here go to Advanced tab.
You can open it through alternative method by going to Control Panel>System>Advanced system settings
  • Now click on Settings in the performance section.
  • Here disable Show shadows under Windows option.

That’s it, you are done. Now you will not find the latest shadow effect introduced with Windows 10 from the Windows borders and now you will get the clean interface as in Windows 8/8.1. For more tips and tutorials regarding the latest Windows 10 stay tuned.
