OnePlus One has created some buzz in the smartphone market. Though, it is a new entrant into smartphone segment, it has grabbed attention of the users due to the features it is offering for its price. Since OnePlus One comes with CyanogenMod, which comes with more Android custom settings and so there are more customizations to be performed on it. Here we need to talk about hardware buttons vs Android system bar. Before, Android phones used to have physical buttons which includes menu, home and back button. But many of Android phones running on Android 4.0 replaced physical buttons with Android system bar.
But some of the manufacturers decided to keep the physical buttons and which is true for OnePlus One. On Oneplus One hardware buttons enabled actually turns off Software System Bar and vice versa. Due to the CyanogenMod customization, you can determine how to use your phone and we will see here how to adjust the setting.
How to Enable On-Screen navigation buttons on OnePlus One
- Pull down the notification bar on your OnePlus One and tap on the box icon in the upper right corner of the screen
- Click on the settings icon here

One thing you should note here is that the back and menu button locations are switched between the hardware and software buttons. To re-enable the hardware buttons perform the above given steps again but in the step four uncheck Enable-on screen navigation bar.
