In India there was a time, people had to Government channels to watch television. After liberalisation viewers were spoilt for choice by deluge of channels. After the launch of YouTube by Google, things have changed. Content producers are directly uploading the content in You Tube which can be viewed from any part of the world. However there are challenges in terms of low bandwidth in a country like India. Things are getting changed now, after launch of 4G and broadband services, data traffic has bettered and increased in terms of speed and quality.
Recently Google launched their Chromecast device in India. However there are certain drawbacks that Chromecast has faced. One of the drawbacks is that the device should be constantly connected to internet either thru data connection or Wi-Fi. This options works out to be costly proposition. Another drawback, user cannot play from the library where he would have stored music and videos on the television.
However things are changing in the TV technology, after launch of Chromecast here. Teewe, a Bengaluru based company has launched called Teewe. Teewe competes against Google Chromecast directly. This device is suited for people who enjoy watching content on online or prefer to download enjoy their media.
Teewe product comes packed with brilliant features; watching stuff on big screen has changed. As normal convention we play YouTube Videos on phone, tablet or laptop. However with Teewe you can play those videos on your TV screens with ease. No cabling, or extra switches required to see the larger picture.
Teewe designed for the Indian audience, the team aggregates and curate data from online sources to provide superb experience in their app.
The product is easy to set up; one has to plug in the Teewe device into TV’s HDMI input slot. Connect it to home network Wi-Fi and you are ready to watch. One can view any media, be in online video, downloaded video, audio file, pictures everything is covered.
The company has also launched an app Teewe in Android and iOS environment. One has to download it and after installation of the product. The ease of the product, user can rewind, play and next option. Teewe connects your phone and PC with TV screen over local Wi-Fi. User can browse library thru the integrated app of Teewe and play it.
With Teewe app, many users can queue up their favourite program and watch them at leisure or with family; the app allows multiple user to use the device. Using the offline library or any content will not incur data charges.
Teewe is Mango Man Consumer Electronics Pvt Ltd’s flagship product. The company based out of Bengaluru. The company like to ‘play anything on your TV at anytime with the tap of a finger’.
Mango Man Consumer Electronics was founded by Sai Srinivas Kiran G. He is graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Space Engineering. He started his career as Coordinator for the IIT’s music festival. In 2009 he opened a startup called Base9 web services and entertainment p ltd. The company involved in consultancy and web module development for various artists.
In 2011 he joined U2opia Mobile as Product Manager where designed and developed Fonetwish from scratch. Fonetwish is world’s first mobile application that can access Facebook without internet connection.
Later he joined Zynga, a leading gaming service provider as Associate Game Designer. He conceptualised and designed social games for the company. Prior starting Teewe.in, he worked as Director of Product in BSB – Bharti Softbank who owns Hike Messenger. He built the Bangalore Game Studio, which became core team for BSB. He launched SongQuest, India’s first music trivia store. He was instrumental in setting up analytics engine and product management for the studio.
Shubh Malhotra is another founder and he is Chief Technology Officer of Mango Man Consumer Electronics. He is ex alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani with Bachelor of Engineering (Hons). He has published several papers that include deployment of a natural language processing system on Grid, Artificially Intelligent Grid Assistant. He is honoured several awards such Runners Up Microsoft Imagine Cup, Google Product Prodigy Finalist and winner of International Online Hacking competition sponsored by Yahoo.
He started his career as R&D Intern in NextFirst Engineering Technologies P Ltd later became Professional Assistant in BITS, Pilani. In 2009 he joined Capillary Technologies as software engineer and later became Product Manager in the company. He became Product manager in BSB – Bharti Softbank, owners of Hike Messenger where he built mobile games Tiny Mogul Games.
Rachit Rastogi is Chief Product Officer at Teewe.in. He holds Master degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He became UI designer in Base9. He developed UI flows for web based placement automation for Human Resource segment.
He joined Citibank as Analyst in 2012, where he developed a number of analytics and to enhance credit sales, pricing and segmentation, incremental sales model.
Prior to Teewe.in, he became Principal UI Designer of BSB-Bharti Softbank in 2013. He developed user interface, flow designs for operator billing, game metrics and mechanics.
Lalit Mohan is Chief Sales Officer of Teewe.in. He graduated from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani with Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical. He started his career as Research Associate in Central Institute of Road Transport, Pune headed to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd as Commissioning Engineer, headed commissioning of steam generators in client site. In 2011 he became Manager Operations and Key Accounts of Capillary Technologies and became Client Services Director prior starting Teewe.in.
The company has not received any funding till date either as seed capital or thru venture capital.
Teewe.in is planning to bring an Internet TV approach on their platform. However there are close resemblances to Google Chromecast but Teewe.in device has its own unique selling points. In terms of cost the device will cost Rs. 1999 whereas for Google Chromecast we need to shell out Rs. 3700.
It will interesting to see how the future for Teewe.in will shapes up.
