Sony’s PlayStation VR to cost as much as new gaming platform

Sony has changed the name of its virtual headset from Project Morpheus to PlayStation VR this week, but it looks like the company may have given hint about the price tag of this headset.

While talking to Bloomberg, Andrew House, the CEO of Sony Entertainment may have given hint on the price tag. He didn’t exactly revel any specific number, but said that the PlayStation VR headset will come at the price similar to new gaming platform. This new VR headset is going to cost similar to gaming platform rather than any accessories. The PlayStation is going to be released sometimes next year.

Mr. House didn’t give us a particular number, but if the headset costs as much as PlayStation 4, then the price of the PlayStation VR will be $400. Andrew House said,” VR rewrites the rule book on how you can create games. You’re seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it’s possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical.”

We still don’t have any clue about the price of other upcoming VR headset like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and here each device will need some powerful computer to power them. Sony said that the company is planning to release at least ten games, when PlayStation VR releases next year.
