Snapdeal, one of India’s largest e-commerce retailers has acquired Wishpicker to help deliver better product recommendations. Wishpicker is a tech based platform that uses machines to provide better recommendations for gift purchases. The amount for which this acquisition happened has not been disclosed.
This is Snapdeal’s fifth acquisition. Back in April, the company had acquired Doozton. Dootzon is a fashion products discovery site which is also focussed towards matching supporters with their likely purchases. Apart from them, Snapdeal has also acquired Grabbon, esportsbuy.com and shopp.in; which is an online marketplace for handmade items.
As Snapdeal’s size grows, it is important for them to keep up with their competitors like Flipkart and Amazon. They are continuously fine tuning their businesses and website model to provide the customers with an rich experience. Wishpicker was founded by Apurv Bansal and Prateek Rathore. It helps users in finding gift options for their friends and family by using the information provided by the customer. It also takes help from the users Facebook page by trawling through the ‘likes’.
Snapdeal, Flipkart and Amazon are expected to hit around $4 billion in sales this fiscal year.
