How to remove search box from new tab in Mozilla Firefox

If you are using Mozilla Firefox and upgraded it to the version 31.0 and you might have noticed the newly updated New Tab page. In the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, new search box has been added at the top of the New Tab page. Although this added search box help some users but many users are not liking it.

Mozilla Firefox already having the search box in the standard toolbar, so the new search box on the New tab page looks unnecessary. But Mozilla has not offered any way to remove or disable this new search box from the New Tab page. Though you can customize the New Tab page URL using the about:config and change it to open the Homepage. So, here is the tutorial explaining how to remove the search box from the new tab in Mozilla Firefox.



 How to remove search box from new tab in Mozilla Firefox

  • First you need to create the new file userContent.css in chrome folder present inside your Firefox browser user profile folder. If you don’t know about this file and the profile folder.
  • Once you can create userContent.css file or if already it is existing, open it in the Notepad.
  • Now paste the following code in the file and if the file already exists and contains some text, then paste the code at the end of the file.
    * Disable Search box in New Tab page */
    @-moz-document url(about:newtab)
    #newtab-search-container, #newtab-search-logo { display:none !important; }
  • After pasting the code, save the file and run the Firefox again. Now you will not see the Search box in the New Tab page.
