Nokia gets offline map update on Windows Phone

Nokia is the only backbone for Windows Phone, other smartphone makers have tried using this operating system on their devices but failed but Nokia consistently keep going with it. Now Nokia has more than 20 handsets running Windows Phone worldwide. Last month Microsoft has launched Windows Phone 8.1 with voice assistance with Cortana. As of now only developers are using this update and most probably in few weeks it will be available for all Windows Phone users for free.

We got a great news for all Windows Phone users from Nokia as it has released an update of offline mapping means one can use Microsoft maps offline but the services is limited to certain There are two types of updates available for the mapping solution on Windows Phone, offline data installed on a smartphone and the HERE Maps app itself. Today, we are once again looking at the latter, with reports coming in that an update for offline map data is available for limited users (it may depend on your region).

As of now only 20-30 % users will be able to grab this offline map update others have to wait few more days pr even weeks to get this. To get this update your Windows Phone should check for updates frequently, but don’t worry if you have disabled this option, here is another way to manually check for updates:

Microsoft Maps (HTC, Samsung, Huawei)

  • Open Microsoft Maps on your device.
  • Tap ‘…’ at the bottom of the maps.
  • Then tap settings to see check for update option.
  • Select the update option to check for any update for the Maps.

HERE Maps (All Lumia users and others who are using Here Maps)

  • Here also open HERE Maps on your Lumia handset.
  • Tap ‘…’ at the bottom of the Maps app.
  • Then download map data
  • Now update current map
  • Then tap install to begin the process.

Here is also another way to check for the updates in Windows Phone (any version)

  • Go to settings and then Applications by swiping right.
  • You will see there maps
  • Then check for updates

All three ways up there will take few seconds or minutes to check whether any update is available for your device or not. If it finds any update it will take another few minutes to download those updates. After updating your Windows Phone with latest Maps.
