Matrubharti raised seed funding from Viridian Capital

MatruBharti, India based eBook publisher has raised $30k (INR 2 Million) from Viridian Capital. The raised capital will be used to expand the team and strengthen the technology.

Founded by Nilesh Shah and Mahrendra Sharma, Matrubharti is a self publishing pdf platform and an app which serves eBooks in various regional languages. It takes the content directly from the authors and publishes that in form of an eBook. Currently, it is publishing eBooks in 6 languages and in the time to come, it plans to cover at least 21 Indian languages. It claims to be publishing 450 eBooks every month with over 7.5 lakh ebooks been downloaded already.

Talking on the development, Mahrendra Sharma of Matrubharti commented that the startup has seen around 20% month on month growth and over the next one year, the growth is going to be steady, as the penetration of smartphone market is going to encourage more and more people to read the content on their mobile screen.

On its platform, users can buy single books as well as they can subscribe for a monthly plan, which allows them to download and read unlimited number of eBooks on the app, saving them the cost of buying every book. So far, it has published over 4350 books and claims to have 1800 registered authors.
