MakeMyTrip acquires travel startup MyGola

MyGola-Taj-featureMakeMyTrip acquires travel startup MyGola for an undisclosed amount and entire staff has joined MakeMyTrip.

MyGola has built website and app that covers more than 20,000 destinations worldwide. The company has built proprietary technology that provides travel related information through web. They have filed patents on their technology that works on route optimization and collect metadata for millions of travel items and itineraries.

MyGola users can choose from the world’s largest collection of beautiful itineraries curated by savvy locals. A user can tweak his/her itinerary according to plan by changing dates, time and adding places. MyGola’s intelligent algorithm will take care of logistical details. Travelers can collaborate and book the entire itinerary that may include hotels, museums along with local transportation.

The company has integrated their app with Uber for taxi booking services. Apart from taxi services they have tied up with several restaurants for reservation. MyGola earns commission on these services which may vary.

Chevy Chase, MD and Bangalore based company was founded in 2009 by Anshuman Bapna and Prateek Sharma. Anshuman is serial entrepreneur has deep knowledge on internet domain on product and business side. He has graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering in 2000, along with that he has Masters in Business Administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2005.

Anshuman has patents for Method and System for Dynamic Travel Management from the US. He started his career by co founding and as Managing Director of in 1999. It’s India first campus startup raised venture capital and successfully negotiated for acquisitions.  He held this position for 15 months till 2000.


He joined as Manager, Professional Services for Stratify in Dec 2000. He built professional services for the company in India from scratch level. Anshuman was instrumental in getting Infosys account for the Stratify. After successful completion of 2.5 years he moved out of the company and joined Deloitte Consulting as Engagement Manager in 2005. He formulated and led due diligence strategy advisory for large client in the US. He worked on cost restructuring exercises for CitiGroup.

In 2007 he joined Google as Strategic Partner Manager; Anshuman managed $800 million in gross revenue projects for the company. Apart from this, he co founded Democracy Connect in March 2007. Democracy Connect brings India’s elected representatives together with exceptional individuals from all walks of life. These individuals assist in policy formation and constituency development. In 2009 he founded MyGola.

Prateek Sharma is co founder of MyGola. He has graduated in Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 2002. He started his career in Tejas Networks as Research and Development Engineer in 2002 and moved on to become Senior Marketing Consultant in 2009. He worked with the company for almost 7.5 years.

The company has received 3 rounds of funding for $2.7 million from various PE investors such as Blumberg Capital, Helion Venture Partners and 500 Startups.

For MakeMytrip this will be second acquisition for the year after acquiring Simplotel Technologies Pvt Ltd for undisclosed amount. The company is trying to achieve growth through inorganic and organic way. Last year MakeMyTrip acquired for $5 million. In 2012 they had acquired brand Hotel Travel Group.
