Indian startup, LocalCircles has raised funds from Anand Mahindra, the chairman of Mahindra Group, said the company. He is also going to join the advisory board of LocalCircles. It is a citizen engagement platform that was launched in 2013. The startup will use this fund to expand its reach to more than 30 Million people in next five years.
LocalCircles allows citizens to connect with some causes they care about. This platform supports causes from different categories like Civic Issues, Finding Emergency Assistance, Law & Order, Local and National Governance among others. It allows people to come together to support each other, connect with administrations, participate in local or national governance and make their urban life better.
Anand Mahindra said about the development, “I am making this investment because this is what is termed a ‘shared value’ project, where you can do well and do good at the same time.”
LocalCircles currently has communities in 200 Indian cities, but it is planning to expand its services to many more citizens and causes in India. The company is in talks with some other investors for its next round of funding, which is estimated at $3 Million. Currently, it has also launched its Android and iOS app.
