How to switch data connection among 2G, 3G, 4G in Windows Phone 8.1

Many Windows Phone users after updating their device to latest Windows Phone 8.1 Preview edition getting problems using it. Some users are asking how to change network from 2G network to 3G, 3G to 4G to get better internet speed or how to downgrade from 4G to 3G or 2G to save batter.


Yes this is true that Microsoft has removed the direct option to switch between the available network that is why I guess you all are getting problems, don’t worry I will help you to get rid this.

Before proceeding to the step first check that which network you are currently using by swiping down you finger to get the notification center and check the data connection you are using under the signal bars. Here in this tutorial I have covered how to switch data connection in Windows Phone 8.1.

How to switch data connection in Windows Phone 8.1

  1. Slide down the home screen and open Settings on your Windows Phone 8.1
  2. Slide down and find option called cellular+SIM
  3. Tap on the SIM Settings option placed right to the bottom of the display.
  4. Now you can switch data connected to 2G, 3G or 4G.

    That option is not available in my sim settings of T-Mobile Lumia 521. There are just dialogue box inside the sim settings: Sim name and network selection which only shows the network you’re connected to and it’s fix at just 2G. How do I solve this?

      Are you running WP 8.1 or what?, these option you will find only with WP 8.1 or 8.1 Developer preview.

          Look at this path – Settings->Cellular+SIM->SIM Settings-> Select Connection speed

            The last option: Connection Speed is not available in mine. There are just two options under SIM settings: SIM name and Network Connection (which only allow you choose the mobile carrier)
