Holachef secures funds from Kalaari Capital. Holachef is a food tech startup specialised in online meal services. The company is a marketplace of meals curates chefs ranging from executive chefs to amateurs. Holachef manages the logistics of the food including packaging, storage and delivery. The company claims to deliver the food within 20 minutes of placing the order. As of now Holachef delivers in the suburbs of Mumbai. They are claiming to deliver 150+ orders daily.
The unique selling proposition of Holachef is the novelty it offers, a new menu to choose food from every day and delivery it to the user in state of the art packaging. They offer wide range of cuisines like Kashmiri, Mangalorean, Maharashtrian, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Continental, Mexican, Italian, Fusion, Desserts, and sweets.
Holachef’s average order range starts from Rs. 120 to Rs. 350 per person. The company also offers different variety of food for lunch, snacks and dinner. Mumbai based company was founded in 2014 by Saurabh Saxena, Anil Gelra and Ritu Rana. He is dual degree graduate (Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 2004. He started his career as Associate in Nishith Desai Associates in May 2004.
In December 2004, Saurabh joined as associate technical professional in Halliburton. He worked with the Malaysia based company for 14 months. In April 2006, he co founded Aakar Knowledge Solutions. He was with Aakar for 21 months and in January 2008; Saurabh became Director – Sales and Marketing of Mexus Education P Ltd. He was responsible for product visualization, development, training and sales channel development for the company.
In July 2013, he quitted Mexus and became visiting profession in Rustomjee Business School. He worked with the business school for 8 months and became Angel Investor in several startups like Sunshine Teahouse, Shopsense, Gloob Decor, and AdPushup. In May 2014 he founded Holachef.com.
Anil Gelra is co founder of Holachef. He is Chief Technology Officer of the company. Anil has graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 2004. He was assistant manager in Maruti Udyog from 2004 to March 2007. Anil became architect in Sodel Solutions in April 2007. He worked in the company for almost 8 years and in November 2014 joined Saurabh and Ritu to co found Holachef.
The company received seed funding of $320K as seed capital from India Quotient in Feb, 2015. The food tech startup received their venture funding as second seed fund in June, 2015 for $3.1 million from existing investor India Quotient and Kalaari Capital. Holachef has been issued short term debt which converts in equity when the company raises Series A funding.
Several startup in food technology are raising funding through investors. These include TapCibo securing funds from FreeCharge ex founder. Yumist raised funds from Orios Venture Partners, SpoonJoy funded by Sachin Bansal of Flipkart. Bengaluru based Swiggy secured about $16.5 million from Norwest and others. The market has become very competitive with the entry of online cab booking startup Ola. They have launched Ola Cafe inside the Ola app and operating from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
