The built in Google News and weather app on the Android devices has not paid much attention since from the Android 2.3 version. Today it received an update today, however it is a major update and hit the play store as well. This update has has brought the app to the version 2.0 and is available for all the Android devices and it is now available as an app update for those who are running the old version.
This new update has brought the new layout, incorporating the Google New style card based design, with the ability to swipe between the categories and you can view the same story from the different sources. Like before, there are different editions available for the various countries and you can control the sections and the editions that you are subscribed through the settings menu and all these are linked to your Google account naturally.
In the new version there is also an optional weather widget available at the top of the main view, which can also configured to show the weather based on your current location or for the location you have set manually on your device. At the top of the app there is an couple of home screen widgets available to choose from, which are the 4×1 combined weather and the news view and also the larger scrolling newsfeed and the weather forecast pinned to the app.
This roll out of the app looks like it is still in progress, so if you are seeing the app status as “incompatible”, then try checking back in few minutes. You can manually download it from the link given below.
