Firefox for Android introduces chromecast support with nightly builds

By | August 20, 2014

The number of Android apps that support chromecast has been increasing rapidly and the list is still expanding. One of the latest to enter this list is the Mozilla Firefox for Android. So for this you need to use the Nightly build version of Firefox for now, but you can also view you favorite content on to your Chromecast connected to big screen.

Now the device allows anyone to cast it, regardless of their platform or the content which they want to cast. One of the Mozilla engineer Lucas Rocha has posted this news on Google+ and showing off the video which is casting the test page with few embedded videos ready for the casting pleasure.

To get everything up and run on your end just go to Firefox nightly page and download apk file from there. After downloading the apk go to video casting test page which makes an easy place to verify if everything is working fine. If the chromecast icon displays on your device in the cast to device pop up, then you are ready to go.

Couple of months ago a news stated that Mozilla built/commissioned chromecast competing Netcast was designed to do everything that the chromecast can do and more. With their dedicated streaming stick in words, it is the bit of surprise that Mozilla has took some time to build the chromecast support into the Firefox. Perhaps, Google would have unveiled device competing with chromecast, careated the setback for the Mozilla’s objectives or perhaps Mozilla plans to use much of the Chromecast protocols and techniques for their product, such that baking the casting ability to their browser.
