Sometimes you need to find out the date and time when the Windows was installed on your PC. Below I have explained clearly how to find out the date and time when the Windows OS is installed on your PC. Actually we can do it by three methods.

  • Method 1 : Using Windows Explorer
  • Method 2 : Using SystemInfo command in Command prompt
  • Method 3 : Using WMIC command in Command prompt

How to find out date and time when Windows installed on your PC

Method 1 : Using Windows Explorer

This is the easiest method to find out the approximate date and time when Windows is installed on your PC

  • First open the Windows Explorer and go to the drive in which Windows have been installed. Generally it will be C Drive for may of the systems.
  • Now either change the folder view type to Details or right-click on any folder such as Program files or Windows and select the Properties from the drop down.
  • Clicking on properties take you to the folder properties window and here you can see the folder created date and time. It will be the same time when Windows OS is installed in your computer.

But there is a small problem with this method, Microsoft has changed the Windows installation type to image based, means that setup installer extracts the required files to your hard drive and so many time the data and time of the folder creation will not be same as installation time and date.

Method 2 : Using SystemInfo command in Command prompt

Above said method cannot give the exact time and date of Windows installation on your PC, but this method gives exact information.

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Now run systeminfo command in the command prompt, it will take few seconds and get you back with the detailed information in the result.
  • Scroll upwards and search for Original Install date section, here it will show the correct time and date of the Windows installation in your system.

  • You can also use the I parameter to find the Windows installation date and time via systeminfo command.
To do so just run systeminfo | find /i “date” in the command prompt.

Method 3 : Using WMIC command in Command prompt

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Now run WMIC OS GET install date command in the command prompt, it will immediately show the install date and time of Windows in following format.
Year Month Date Hour Minute Seconds
