Facebook joins the list of company that is offering Virtual Assistant service, which already have companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google. Apple has “Siri”, Google has “Google Now” and Microsoft has “Cortana”. One thing, which is true for all these Virtual assistant services: The more they know about you, the more useful they are going to be.

Now Facebook is also testing its own digital assistant service called “M” inside messenger app. The company has launched its Virtual Assistant Service to the few hundred people in the Bay Area.

David Marcus, head of Messenger at Facebook said, “M is a personal digital assistant inside of Messenger that completes tasks and finds information on your behalf, it’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people.”

He also added, “Unlike other AI-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements,”

Currently Apple’s Siri is most popular artificial Intelligence personal assistant, but Facebook’s M is going to be different from Siri. Marcus told that this new digital assistant ‘M’ is going to do more works than other personal assistant software available in the market. It can buy products; deliver gifts and book reservation or appointments on behalf of the user.

With the popularity of messenger app, one can only think that it is going to give tough competition to other virtual assistant service available in the market.
