How to enable Enterprise mode in IE 11 and later

Internet Explorer comes preinstalled with Windows operating system. The current version of Internet Explorer IE11 comes with the Windows 8.1 Operating System and it can also be installed in Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 server operating systems. Internet Explorer 11 comes with various new features including the preloading website content background to optimize the performance, support for SPDY/3 protocol, 64-bit process for Enhanced protected mode.



IE 11 also came with the Enterprise mode feature which has been implemented to offer better support for websites having the compatibility issues in IE 11 browser. By default Enterprise mode will be disabled, but if you are interested you can enable it using following methods.



  • Method 1 : Using Group Policy editor
  • Method 2 : Using Registry editor

How to enable Enterprise mode in IE 11

Method 1 : Using Group Policy editor

  • Press WIN+R key to launch run option and type gpedit.msc in run box and then hit enter. It will open Group Policy editor.
  • Now go to Computer configuration>Administrative templates>Windows Components>Internet Explorer
  • In the right side pane, search for Let users turn and use Enterprise mode from Tools Menu option.
  • By default the option would be set to Not configured, double-click on it to set it to Enabled

Apply the changes and now Enterprise mode in Internet Explorer 11 is enabled and later using Tools>Enterprise mode option in Menubar.



Method 2 : Using Registry editor

  • Press WIN+R key to launch run option and type rgedit in run box and then hit enter. It will open registry editor.
  • Now go to key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies|Microsoft
  • Now create the new key Internet Explorer under Microsoft and create new main key under Internet Explorer key. Again create the another new key Enterprise mode under Main key.
    The final key will look like this, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies|Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Enterprise mode. 
  • In the right side pane, create the new string Enable and leave it as empty.

Apply the changes and now Enterprise mode in Internet Explorer 11 is enabled and later using Tools>Enterprise mode option in Menubar.
