Dell XPS 15 Touch Screen : Review and Specifications

Dell XPS 15 fall in the premium 15-inch notebook range and features the highest resolution screen of 3200 x 1800 pixels. It is powered by 4th generation 3.4GHz Intel Core i5/i7 4200H processor along with 512 GB SSD wrapped with the stylish and sleek design. Its price starts at $1,499 and for high end specification devices it costs around $2,299. It runs on Windows 8.1 Operating System and it is a productivity workhorse and offers plenty of entertainment value with its Nvidia GPU and powerful speakers.

Design and Display

Dell XPS 15 looks simple on the outside with the exposed aluminium chassis with a Dell logo at the center. On the Laptop’s carbon fiber bottom panel an ingenious checkerboard runs through and has the long horizontal speaker on the top edge, small aluminum flap at the center and vent at the bottom. It has the 15.6 inch Gorilla NBT screen and is surrounded by the bezel. You feel very comfortable with the soft-touch covering which extends across the bulk of the body. It measures 14.6 x 10 x 0.7 inches and weighs around 4.6 pounds.

Coming to the display it is the highest resolution in 15 segment laptop in market and it features 3200 x 1800 UltraSharp QHD display with touch screen. It features 160 degree viewing angles and video will be bright and looks theatrical. It’s screen is om impressive when viewing high resolution photos and videos.



XPS 15 contains the speakers at the bottom, even though the speakers are at the bottom it delivers the impressive audio and you could clearly hear the jumping bass. It also features the Dell Audio app which allows the users to adjust the basic equalization, treble, sliders for bass, stereo and dialog. It has a bass boost option if you are having the external speakers and the Midnight switch option will instantly brings the music down to the non-disruptive volume.

Ports and Webcam

The ports of XPS come packed on its thin left and right edges. On left side there is a power input, a mini display port, HDMI, two USB 3.0 ports and3.5mm headphone jack. On the right side there is 3-in-1 media card reader, one USB 2.0, port and a USB 3.0 port. It also features the HD webcam which will be good for the video chats, but the picture quality is not so impressed.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Well designed island keys on XPS 15 delivered the springy feedback and it is very easy to type up to 65 words per minute. Other common secondary functions like brightness, pause and play and volume control are placed with F1 to F12 keys. Generally the Dell’s keyboard backlight will be mostly bright, but in XPS less light is coming from the Function and Windows keys and from both sets of Alt and Ctrl buttons.

Touchpad is very impressive, comfy and intutive with the soft touch texture and the small gray indicator which separates the right and left click. Touchpad is responsive for both the clicks and taps especially on Windows 8.

Performance and Graphics

Dell XPS packs the 3.2 GHz fourth generation Intel core i7 4702HQ processor paired with impressive 16 GB RAM and 512 GB flash memory. When tested it booted Windows 8.1 Operating System in just 14 seconds which is equal to its competitor 15 inch MacBook Pro with OS X and just a second longer than Asus Zenbook UX51Vz’z boot time. It features the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, 2 GB DDR5 graphics card which support high end games and graphics.

With its promising specifications it is considered as the highly performance laptop which can be helpful for all kind of professionals.


Coming to the battery it packs the 91-WHr battery which provides the above average capacity and when tested it when browsing the web continuously lasted for 7 hours and 7 minutes. But anyhow you need to carry charger in the bag when leaving the house.
