Deal Street Asia raises Angel funds from Vijay Shekhar and SGAN

Deal street Asia, the Singapore based digital media platform that covers financial and economic news of Southeast Asia region, has secured unspecified amount in seed round of funding led by Vijay Shekhar, the CEO of Paytm and Singapore Angel Network.

Hindustan Times Media Group, which is publisher of business daily Mint in India and MintAsia in Singapore, has also participated in this round of funding. The startup started its operations in India in September this year, which provides information related to deals on its platform. Executives of different sectors like financial sector, transaction industry practitioners, startups, accelerators, incubators and educational institutions, use its research and analysis.

The startup will use the fund to strengthen its team in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Myanmar. The company will also use the fund to expand its operations to China and Hong Kong as well as working towards the launch of its deal analytics and data platform.

As of now, the startup had published more than 4,000 deal related stories at an average of 40 stories per day. The founder and editor and in-chief of Deal Street Asia, Joji Thomas Philip said, “We have made significant progress during the last 12 months, with editorial presence in ASEAN countries, and larger teams in India and Singapore. We plan to go to China next with outposts in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, and also expand to Japan and Australia, and become a pan-Asia player.”
