How to change default search engine in Android browser

Most of the web browsers we have seen use Google Search as the default search engine. In some cases you want to switch from Google Search to an alternative and in those cases use search engines like Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Wolfram Alpha might prove they are more useful than Google. In Android devices, you can easily change the default search engine in your browser.



How to change default search engine in Android browser

For Firefox

If you are using Firefox browser on Android device, then it is very easy fro you to switch between different search engines from Google to Bing and Yahoo.

  • Launch the Firefox and press menu key on your Android device and then tap on Settings and here you can change the settings for your browser.
  • Now tap on Customize from the options and it will let you customize your browser and so tap on Search from the options.
  • On the next screen, you will see all the search engines which you can make default browser on your device. If you want to make Bing as your default search engine, then tap on it.

  • A little prompt will appear asking to select from two options and tap on Set as default and it will set as your default search engine.

Now you will see your selected search engine appearing on the top and saying Default. 



For Android



  • Launch the Chrome from app drawer and press menu key on your Android device and then tap on Settings and here you can change the settings for your browser.
  • On the next screen, under the Basics option, you will find an option saying search engine and tap on it. It will display the search engines available for you to use.

  • After tapping on the search engine, it will instantly become your default one. You can now go back to the main screen of Chrome and see your newly set search engine working for yourself.

For Android default browser

If you are not moved to Chrome or Firefox, still using the default browser which comes with your Android device.

  • Launch the Chrome from app drawer and press menu key on your Android device and then tap on Settings and here you can change the settings for your browser.
  • On the settings page, then tap on advanced and it will take you to the advanced settings section.

  • On the next screen, the first option you will see is Select search engine and choose the search engine which you want.
  • You can select the new search engine to be set as the default one. Tap on search engines from the list and it will immediately become your default search engine.
