Athletto, Indian sports-tech startup raises seed funding

Athletto, Indian sports tech startup, based out of Bangalore, has raised an undisclosed amount in Angel funding. The sole investor in the round was Atul Ingle, an India based industrialist.

Speaking on the development, Atul said that the main reason behind him investing in the startup was the team’s vision along with the kind of passion they have for sports. Also, they have great knowledge of the product and the market and their strategies to woo the customers have worked wonders.

Athletto, started in 2015 by Ujwal Sutharia, Praveen Gadpayle and Narayana Vyas, provides cloud based web and mobile platform to all the related figures in sports, including players, professional coaches, sports academy managers, tournament organizers. It provides all sorts of sports related infrastructure which might be needed to conduct the events. Also, it helps the sports enthusiasts find the best programs and coaches. It has a big database of the sports facilities with details including their operational time, ratings, coaches and price.

Two of the three founders have been nation level tennis players and this worked as inspiration for them to get started. The startup was first started as a campus idea, guided by CIIE Young IIMAverics Fellowship program, the program which helps IIM students take the entrepreneurial path. It is still receiving active mentor-ship from the same.

Speaking on the development, an official from Athletto stated that there are over 250,000 sports facilities in the country and most of them have an occupancy rate of less than 15%. There is a great scope to enhance that and for the same reason, Athletto was started. The startup is planning to scale the operations in bangalore along with launching in other cities of India.

As of today, it has over 8000 listed and verified sports facilities across 8 cities. Bangalore still remains as the best market for the startup as it has over 400 sports facilities in the IT city of India. Facilitating over 200 daily transactions, it has touched over 40,000 transactions with a turnover of INR 1.5 Cr in less than 10 months since the launch.

Speaking on the development, Ujwal Sutharia, CEO Athletto stated that sports industry see a great number of repeated sales and loyal customers. Till now, the startup has seen over 65% returning customers, which is phenomenal in itself.
