Even before IFA 2014 started at Berlin on September 3rd 2014, there were a few things which were pretty sure to be unveiled at the event. Asus had indicated about the new model which the company had been working on, and as expected, Asus launched ZenWatch at the press conference today in Berlin.

Asus had made the intentions clear earlier this year when the company officials had indicated that they were working on a smart watch, preferably working on the Android Wear model, so contend with some other competitors like Motorola moto 360 and Samsung Gear Live.

In the initial rumors which had come about the watch, Asus ZenWatch was expected to have some unique features which were never experienced in the wearables. Something like gesture based controls. Before the event took place today at IFA, it was rumored that Asus ZenWatch would be launched with a price tag of $199 to compete with the other smart watches launched around the same time, however, the launch price went on to get a little higher and Asus launched this watch at 199 Euro.

The design of the watch is pretty decent as compared. The comfort zone has been taken into consideration for the first ever time in a Smart Watch, how ever Samsung has also launched a similar designed watch which is designed in order to provide an extra bit of comfort to the wrist.

One of the major things about Asis ZenWatch is the support of Android Wear which was announced at Google I/O in June 2014. The ZenWatch features a 3G connectivity option which makes it easy to operate even without pairing with a Smartphone. The steel finish makes it look classy with curved display.

Considering the specs, ZenWatch features a 1.63 inch curved display with a resolution of 320×320 pixels. It has a snapdragon 400 processor clocking at a speed of 1.2 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0 , a bio sensor which can measure heart beat, and IP55 level water proofing.

Considering the specs, the Asus ZenWatch looks pretty much competitive to LG Smart Watch and moto 360, but for sure, Asus beats the competitors in terms of design.

Asus ZenWatch is launched at a price of €199 (which is about $260 USD), it will be available in the retail market by the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2014.
